Favorite things everlasting
Read: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
Product: Herbivore Jasmine Body Oil
Like I mentioned last Sunday, I thought it might be best to start off the blog with a few of my personal favorites be it a book or a product that I use every day - or both! This week is week two in my version of Alex's Favorite Things with another book I also enjoyed as a movie, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.
Doomed to - or blessed with - eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, the Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less a blessing that it might seem. Complications arise when Winnie is followed by a stranger who wants to market the spring water for a fortune.
Tuck Everlasting is a story many first read as children, but one I picked up as an adult and loved the premise of immediately. I've always been intrigued by the idea of death and what would happen if someone were granted the ability to live forever and how that might impact those around them. The writing is clean and simple and beautiful and I very much enjoyed the descriptive language and the atmospheric setting - I felt like I could find myself in a piece of the Tuck's home, at the magic spring, and all the other places set out in the novel. It's a quick read and one I always recommend.
Paired this week with Herbivore Jasmine Body Oil, I thought these two would be a great complement for one another. The jasmine scent is subtle and soft and lingers on the skin just enough that you're left with a bit of an aromatherapy treatment - much like after you've read Tuck and it sticks with you. I love the consistency of the oil and have used it on my body but also lightly in my hair to help keep fly aways at bay while still enjoying the smell.
I picked up the oil at Sephora for $58 CAD, and the book is available from most major retailers.
Hope you're all having a beautiful weekend wherever you are!
All my love,
